English Department

The English department strives to give students opportunities for real-world experience. In addition to a wide range of writing and literature courses, the English department offers two kinds of transfer degrees: an Associate of Arts in English Literature and Associate of Science transfer degrees with an emphasis in English. Students have the chance to work as peer mentors in the Writing Center, edit and produce The Clackamas Literary Review, and help plan CCC's annual creative writing conference, Compose

Additional academic resources include Testing and Placement Services and Placement Advising for Student Success (PASS).

Compose Creative Writing Conference

Compose is an annual workshop series open to budding writers, lovers of literature and anyone interested in telling a story. Held in the spring at our Oregon City campus, this low-cost conference teaches attendees how to tell stories in meaningful ways, giving them the opportunity to network, share ideas and learn from special guest speakers including writers, poets and publishers.

Chrysalis Women Writers

Chrysalis Women Writers has been meeting for more than 25 years! All types of writing are welcome, including short story, poems, novels, memoirs, and plays, as well as nonfiction. Authors may be new or experienced at the craft.

The group spends ten minutes on each writer’s piece. After the piece is read aloud, members comment on its strengths and weaknesses, or focus on areas of concern to the writer. Newcomers are always welcome! We meet in person on Wednesday at noon in the Literary Arts Center, Rook 220, and via Zoom.
