Pauling/DeJardin Science Complex

DeJardin Hall features:

• 23,150 sf of new space and 18,602 sf of renovated space
• New anatomy, physiology, zoology labs
• New biology and environmental labs
• New chemistry and chemistry tutoring labs
• New water environmental technology labs
• Staff offices
• Science on display

The 35-year-old science complex on the Oregon City campus was outdated and contributed to class overcrowding and long wait lists, which both contributed to increased student time to completion and lower retention.

This project doubled the college's chemistry lab capacity, accommodating an additional 250 chemistry students a year. Additional biology classes can be offered due to efficient prep space. Maker/collaboration spaces expand opportunities for partnership research. This project adds the ability for Saturday middle and high school extra-curricular learning.

The new labs expose students to modern, industry standard, scientific work environments, which are similar to what they will find when they transfer to a university. The addition of student collaboration spaces and support for the STEM Club will help grow student retention.

This project will serve all science and allied health majors. It expands collegiate and technical science laboratories preparing students for majors and careers in physics; chemistry; biology; water/wastewater; environmental sciences; cellular and molecular invertebrate studies, geologic studies and health sciences prerequisites such as anatomy and physiology.

Fast Facts

The new CCC transit center and shared-use path that connects the transit center to Oregon City High School was part of the DeJardin project, using funds awarded from the ConnectOregon and ODOT grants.
