Suzanne Richards’ journey to success began more than four
years ago when she fled from a violent relationship, taking her daughter and a
few possessions to Oregon in the dark of night. She arrived in Oregon a broken
woman, her body injured, her self-esteem gone. She credits Clackamas Community
College with the transformation of her life.
Suzanne first encountered Clackamas when her car ran out of
gas in front of the CCC’s Harmony campus. On crutches, she made her way into
the lobby to use the phone. College had never been part of Suzanne’s plan, but
she signed up for placement tests before she left Harmony that day.
Suzanne enrolled in the Life and Career Options Program, a
program that supports people through life transitions. finished the program and
enrolled full time in college classes, supported by three scholarships from the
CCC Foundation. She graduated from CCC with honors with a degree in Human Services from and plans to work with
children in protective custody.
