Jon LaFarge

Current Position:  Water and Environmental Technology

CCC has helped many laid off workers retool so they can re-enter the workforce. When the Blue Heron Paper mill in Oregon City closed in 2011, Jon LaFarge faced layoff after working there for 37 years. He and his coworkers got help from CCC's Workforce Development Services team. With their assistance, Jon found a new career path. And with Trade Act funds, he was able to return to college at CCC to earn a one-year certificate in  water and environmental technology.

At first, Jon was nervous about returning to school after a 40-year break. But he was focused and had an education and career plan. He worked hard and soon found he made the right decision.  Jon earned his certificate, but before he graduated, he had a new position as a wastewater operator for Clean Water Services.

Jon is one of many people CCC has helped to get the skills and training they need to re-enter the workforce in high-demand careers.
