In June CCC part-time faculty Lauren Zavrel took a trip of a
lifetime. She went to the White House and witnessed President
Obama's signing of an executive order to help those struggling with
student loan debt.
Lauren is involved with the National Education Association's (NEA)
Degrees Not Debt campaign. She wrote a story about her experience
with student loan debt, from the perspective of a recent master's
degree graduate and teacher who is struggling with her own student
loan debt. She was interviewed by NEA and invited to attend the
bill signing at the White House.
"I have the career of my dreams as a GED and development education
teacher at Clackamas Community College" says Lauren. She also works
two other education-related jobs in addition to advocating for
educators who are also struggling with student loan debt.
Clackamas Community College is helping many students get an
affordable start to their college education and awards more than
$500,000 in scholarships and instruction support each year.
