Former Air Force Nurse Shares 9/11 Experience at the Pentagon

Friday, October 02, 2009

Air Force nurse Bridget Larew will talk about her experience working at the Pentagon on 9/11 as a guest speaker at Clackamas Community College. Her presentation is Monday, Oct. 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the McLoughlin Auditorium. Larew’s presentation is coordinated by the CCC Nursing Department.

Major Larew was one of the first responders during the Sept. 11 disaster when a hijacked airliner crashed into the Pentagon. She acted as the initial on-scene clinic commander and quickly organized a triage team of more than 100 volunteers. She also provided direct care for burn patients and other casualties.

Larew graduated from nursing school in 1985 and was then commissioned into the Air Force. She had a distinguished career in the Air Force, where she practiced nursing in a variety of settings including obstetrics, medical/surgical and urology. In 1998 she earned a master’s degree as a family nurse practitioner. Larew retired in 2006 at the rank of lieutenant colonel. She currently works as a nurse practitioner in West Virginia.

Larew’s presentation is free and open to the public.
