CCC Teen Parent Program Named Grant Recipient

Thursday, July 09, 2009

The Young Parent Opportunity Program at CCC is one of three organizations in the state that will benefit from the 2009 “Book a Brighter Future” campaign. The campaign at Macy’s stores nationwide raises funds for Reading is Fundamental’s efforts to provide books to underserved children.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) is a longstanding program promoting reading among children through working with parents and community members. The Young Parent Opportunity Program (YPOP), serving pregnant and parenting teenagers, has a RIF grant to provide reading material and support teen parents reading to their babies.
A portion of the proceeds from the “Book a Brighter Future” campaign in Oregon will be used by YPOP to buy books for parents to read to their children. “Reading is such an important bonding experience for children and parents,” said Cyndi Andrews, dean of Extended Learning at CCC. “This grant enables us to expand our library for our young parents.”
