Five Clackamas Community College students won awards at a writing contest for community college students hosted by Marylhurst University.
The writing contest was open to students enrolled at Clackamas, Clark, Mt. Hood and Portland Community Colleges. Categories for submission included poetry, short fiction, creative non-fiction and literary analysis.
Clackamas Community College awards went to: • Barb Froman, fiction, third prize for “Seasons of Change” • Nancilee Baker, poetry, second prize for "Transformation" • Mariah Ureel, poetry third prize for "Bitter Sweet” • Zoran Mrdak, memoir honorable mention for “Zoran and Slobodan’s Road to Recovery” • Bethany Walker, criticism award for "Women of Hamlet: Ophelia and Queen Gertrude”
“Our creative writing students continue to excel in every category, and Marylhurst continues to offer this rare and wonderful opportunity for them,” said Kate Gray, CCC English Department chairwoman.
