Mon, 19 Apr 2010 16:20:22 GMT

CCC students Taylor Reavely and Juliana Aguilar were honored last week in a ceremony in Salem with Gov. Ted Kulongoski. The two CCC students were among 40 outstanding scholars from Oregon community colleges honored for both academic and personal achievements. These 40 students were selected from the 380,000 students attending the state’s 17 community colleges this year. For the past 18 years, two students from each of the state’s community colleges have been honored as Outstanding Community College Scholars in an event sponsored by the Oregon Community College Association (OCCA). The student scholars will receive a scholarship valued at $1,000 or more from one of 19 colleges and universities in Oregon. Reavely was one of three student speakers featured at the banquet following the ceremony in the governor’s office, where each student received a plaque and had their picture taken with Kulongoski. Reavely, 20, of West Linn is president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a math tutor, who is active in his church and as a camp counselor and director. Reavely has a 3.8 grade point average and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for two-year colleges. He plans to transfer to Portland State University and go on to earn a master’s degree. Aguilar, 20, is involved with student government and volunteers at several community organizations. With a 3.7 GPA, she is on the honor roll and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She has received numerous scholarships. She plans to transfer to PSU or University of Oregon to pursue a master’s degree in business with a minor in French. For more information, contact the OCCA at 503-399-9912.
