Summer Term Horticulture Courses and Workshops

Summer is the perfect time to take a gardening class!

CCC offers several credit classes including water efficient gardening and plant identification. Here’s a list of summer term classes and workshops.

• June 23 - July 21, Native Plant Identification. A one-credit class that covers identification and garden use of plants native to the Pacific Northwest. The class meets Tuesdays, June 23 through July 21, from 1 to 3 p.m.

• June 23 - August 11, Herbaceous Perennials. A three-credit class that covers plant identification, propagation, selection and garden culture of perennials. Class meets Tuesdays, June 23 through August 11, from 8 a.m. to noon.

• June 28, Water Efficient Gardening. Celebrate the fourth anniversary of the Water Efficient Demonstration Garden at CCC. The free event from noon to 4 p.m. features tours of the garden and All America Selection vegetable and display garden, information on water efficient landscaping, plant experts and giveaways. No pre-registration needed. Event is at Clairmont Hall in front of the greenhouses.

• July 25, The Changing Face of Mt. St. Helens. Journey to the edge of an active volcano and explore the rich cultural history of the area at the Silver Lake Visitor Center. Enjoy lunch and a ranger-led hike at Johnson Ridge Observatory. Cost $70. For information call 503-657-6958, ext. 2644. Group meets at CCC’s Environmental Learning Center at 8 a.m. and returns at 6 p.m.
