Track Coach Sets Goals for 2010 Season

Fri, 02 Apr 2010 13:41:50 GMT

Track Coach Keoni McHone has a personal goal for the Clackamas Community College track and field team this spring: He wants 85 percent of the athletes to improve on their personal records. CCC’s competitive spirit continues this spring as the track and field team takes on the challenge of a well-rounded Northwest Athletic Association of Community College (NWAACC) conference. After finishing third and fourth respectively last season at the league championship, the men’s and women’s teams plan to build on the experience they gained last year. McHone, who is entering his fourth season as head coach for the CCC Cougars, spoke about the goals for this year’s team. “Our goals are to place three athletes in the top eight in every event,” he said. McHone says that athletes to keep an eye on this season are: Braden Keller, who earned All-American honors and an NWAACC championship in javelin in 2009, along with CCC’s most improved athlete of the year in 2009. Keller is a sophomore out of Kelso, Wash., and his best javelin throw is 206 feet. Keisa Monterola became a two-time NWAACC champion in 2009, when she took first place in the pole vault and long jump events. Monterola, a sophomore from Venezuela, has a best long jump distance that is over 18 feet 4 inches. The CCC track and field team will compete at the Pacific Northwest Relays on Friday, April 9, at Oregon City High School stadium at 12th and Van Buren. Clackamas also competes with Lane Community College and Clark College on April 24 at the Oregon City stadium.
