CCC: News Releases
Outstanding community college students from around Oregon will meet with Gov. Ted Kulongoski on Wednesday, April 15, in Salem. Associated Student Government President Michael Vu and health sciences student Donna McBee will represent Clackamas Community College at the awards ceremony.
Each year two students from each of the state’s community colleges are honored as Outstanding Community College Scholars in an event sponsored by the Oregon Community College Association (OCCA). The student scholars will receive a scholarship valued at $1,000 or more from one of 19 colleges and universities in Oregon.
McBee returned to school after an absence and enrolled in the clinical laboratory assistant program. She is now working toward a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a second degree in public health. She is on the Honor Roll at CCC.
Vu is working toward a degree in accounting. He has received numerous scholarships and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for students at two-year colleges.
The Outstanding Student Scholar Awards are awarded every year by the OCCA. Each scholar is chosen by his or her college based on criteria developed by that college. In addition to the ceremony with the governor, students also attend a luncheon held in their honor.
