Cruising Southern Japan Among the Spring Seasoned Adult Offerings

A presentation on cruising southern Japan is one of many offerings of the Spring 2009 Seasoned Adult Enrichment Program.

The Seasoned Adult Enrichment Program (SAEP) provides seniors in the county an educational experience designed and administered by “seasoned adults” in the community. All classes are held at the Harmony Community Campus, in room 191 of the Oregon Institute of Technology building, unless otherwise indicated. All sessions begin at 9:30 a.m. This spring’s SAEP schedule follows:

• April 1: “Introduction to the Audubon Society of Portland and Backyard Birds.” An Audubon volunteer gives a presentation on the Audubon Society of Portland and how to attract birds in your backyard. A no-host luncheon at the Clackamas Izzy’s follows at noon.

• April 8: “Managing Arthritis in the 21st Century.” Janet Lamb gives a presentation on how arthritis is diagnosed as well as options for treatment.

• April 15: “A View of Mercy Corps International.” Minda Seibert gives a presentation on the worldwide Mercy Corps, based in Portland.

• April 22, 2009: “Cruising Southern Japan.” Joanne and Jim Baker give a presentation on Japan’s inland sea – from Kobe to Kagoshima.

• April 29, 2009: Field Trip to the Japanese Garden. Enjoy the beautiful strolling pond garden, tea garden and sand and stone garden. Please contact June Routson for reservations at 503-786-3856.

• May 6: “Invention World USA.” Ken Wells gives a presentation on creating inventions with an open mind.

• May 13: “World Forestry Center” Gary Hartshorn gives a presentation about the Forestry Center’s mission to educate and inform people about the world’s forest and trees, and their importance to life.

• May 24 and 31: CCC Theatre Production, “You Can’t Take it With You.” Directed by David Smith-English. This play relates the humorous encounter between a conservative family and the crazy household of Grandpa Martin Vanderhof.
