CCC Offers New Degree in Digital Multimedia Communications

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

The Portland area is growing in popularity with the film-making industry. The blockbuster animated film “Coraline” was produced in Oregon, and some scenes of the popular vampire-romance movie “Twilight” were filmed at Clackamas Community College.

“The creative industry is a growing field,” says CCC instructor Andy Mingo. “More people are bringing their films to the Portland area and are in need of skilled workers. Clackamas’ Digital Multimedia Communications (DMC) degree is designed to give people concrete job opportunities.”

Clackamas’ new associate’s degree in Digital Multimedia Communications was approved by the state in January. The DMC program offers several different fields of focus including: audio and sound engineering, broadcast journalism, film studies, graphic design, music and sound for media, video production and web design. An internship in the media industry is part of the program.

Students can begin the two-year DMC program at Clackamas during any term and do not need any special media equipment.

“CCC has state-of-the-art equipment including high-definition video cameras, audio equipment, a recording studio, and Mac labs for video editing. These are all available for DMC students to use,” says Mingo.

Students who have completed integrated media studies (IMS) or other courses at Clackamas may be able to apply their credits toward the DMC associate’s degree.
