Community-Wide Read Explores Food and Life

Thu, 28 Jan 2010 18:04:03 GMT

The CCC English Department will team with the Oregon City Public Library for the third annual community-wide read, entitled “Food for Thought.” On Wednesday, Feb. 10, patrons will gather for a potluck and panel discussion around the book “Crescent” by Diana Abu-Jaber. “Crescent” is a love story and mystery set in a community of Middle Eastern immigrants in Los Angeles. The book is infused with aromas and dishes from the Middle East. Members of the Metamorphosis class at CCC this term, a class that explores food and our relationship to it, will share their thoughts about food, identity and culture. The Food for Thought event will begin at 6 p.m. with a potluck at the Carnegie Center, 606 John Adams Street, in Oregon City. The library will provide some food, but participants are encouraged to bring a dish. The potluck will be followed by a panel discussion with people connected to the food industry. CCC English instructor Trista Cornelius will facilitate the discussion, which will focus on themes of food and identity. Copies of the book “Crescent” are available through the Oregon City Public Library. Copies of the study questions for Food for Thought are posted on the blog http://tristasfoodlibrary.wordpress.com/. For more information, contact Trista Cornelius at 503-594-3266 or tristac@clackamas.edu.
