Are you a night owl?
CCC is offering several new welding classes spring term that are perfect for insomniacs and night people. In addition to its regular daytime and evening welding courses, the college has added graveyard welding courses to its spring term schedule. These courses take place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.
“These new courses are great for night owls and fit in well with people’s busy schedules,” says CCC welding instructor John Phelps. “People can get training for a new job or learn a new hobby.”
Following is a roundup of the five new graveyard welding classes offered spring term at CCC. Spring term begins Monday, March 30.
• GMAW/FCAW (Wire feed), 4 credits, Monday and Wednesday, 10 p.m. - 1:50 a.m. Acquire the knowledge and skills to perform fillet and groove welds in all positions with GMAW/ FCAW. Oxy and plasma cutting also covered.
• Introduction to Welding, 2 credits, Tuesday, 10 p.m. – 1:50 a.m. Designed for the beginner and experimental welder. Includes oxy-acetylene, stick and wire feed welding, oxy-acetylene and plasma arc cutting, bending, coloring and finishing techniques.
• Traditional Iron Working, 2 credits, Thursday, 10 p.m. – 1:50 a.m. Designed for the creative metal worker. Provides support instruction related to metal sculpture bending and welding dissimilar metals. Includes blacksmithing techniques and manual metal forming.
• Welder Certification, 1-4 credits, Monday and Wednesday, 10 p.m. – 1:50 a.m. Provides theory and practical instruction in welder certification. Choose FCAW, SMAW or GTAW for certification.
• Welding Special Projects, 1-2 credits, choose day: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, 10 p.m. – 1:50 a.m. Improve your welding skills while working on instructor-approved projects or in preparation for taking AWS certification test.
