‘Bill and Dave Show’ Opens in Alexander Gallery

Thu, 21 Jan 2010 22:46:07 GMT

Is it art? Is it performance? Is it performance art? What does one call an art exhibit that features two award-winning artists spending a week living in a gallery, producing work for the show? The “Bill and Dave Show” opens in the Alexander Gallery at Clackamas Community College on Tuesday, Feb. 16. That’s when CCC art instructor David Andersen and painter Bill Carman roll the furniture into the gallery for a week’s stay. They’ll bring in a rug and beds, lamps and night tables, and settle in for a week of making art. The two artists will use recycled materials and found objects to explore what makes art art. Their created works will then be placed on display in the gallery. Andersen, who teaches painting and drawing at CCC, will bring his regularly scheduled classes into the gallery. “The Alexander Gallery is a teaching gallery. We want students and the community to come to the gallery and interact with artists and art work,” said Andersen. Carman is a painter and award-winning illustrator who teaches at Boise State University. See his blog at http://billcarman.blogspot.com/. He won the Gold Medal at the New York Society of Illustrators 50th Annual Exhibition with his work titled “Fine Dining” in 2008. The Alexander Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and during special events in the Niemeyer Center. For more information, please contact David Andersen at 503-657-6958, ext. 2743.
