Financial Aid Day Offers Help with College Finances

Thu, 14 Jan 2010 16:14:46 GMT

College-bound students around the state can gain valuable help navigating the financial aid process at events planned for late January. Clackamas Community College will host Financial Aid Day on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Financial aid specialists will be on hand to help attendees, on a drop in basis, complete the paperwork for federal and state financial aid and for the Oregon Student Assistance scholarship application. Financial aid is available from a variety of programs including grants, loans, work study and scholarships. Eligibility for most types of financial aid is based on need. Scholarships are available from many private programs as well to help with the costs of education. Financial Aid Day is one of many events around the state in connection with College Goal Oregon, a free statewide event to help Oregon families navigate the financial aid process. Everyone is invited to attend this event, whether they are high school or nontraditional returning students. To get started with the financial aid process, everyone must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Participants should bring the following: a parent if possible, the most recent income tax information such as W2s or estimated 2009 income, information about current assets, social security numbers for student and parents, driver’s license and alien registration if applicant is not a United States citizen. Scholarship experts will also be available during Financial Aid Day. Clackamas Community College scholarships are open to students with at least a 2.0 grade point average who are taking at least six or more college credit hours. Events take place in the Gregory Forum.
