Farce, Music and Dramatic Comedy in Repertory Theatre 2009 Line-up

Local favorite Ernie Casciato will direct the action in the Clackamas Repertory Theatre (CRT) presentation of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” in August. The repertory theater begins its fifth season in July.

CRT presents professional theatrical productions in the Osterman Theatre at CCC. The company features CCC graduates pursuing professional careers in theater, as well as local actors.

This year’s line up begins July 9 with “Taking Steps,” a British face by Alan Ayckboum, directed by Third Rail Repertory Theatre artistic director Slayden Scott Yarborough. The play runs through July 26.

“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” a musical farce by Stephen Sondheim, Larry Gelbart (M*A*S*H*) and Burt Shevelove, opens August 6 and runs through August 26. Casciato, a perennial favorite in Portland metro theater, takes a break from performing for the CRT to direct the production.

The season concludes with the Tony Award-winning comedy-drama by Alfred Uhry, “The Last Night of Ballyhoo,” It runs from Sept. 24 through Oct. 11. David Smith-English, artistic director for the CRT, directs.
