Cougar Alum Emily Marchbanks pitches shutout in Div II South Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament
HARTSVILLE – Third-seeded Newberry used a four-run fourth inning to dispatch eighth-seeded Queens University of Charlotte 8-0 in six innings Friday afternoon at Byerly Park in the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Championship.
Newberry (33-15) advances to face the winner of No. 4 Coker or No. 7 Tusculum Saturday at Noon, as the Wolves continue to fight their way through the consolation bracket.

Haley Simonds led Newberry at the plate, going 3-for-4 and recording two RBIs. Natalie Willis, Rachel Marion and Myranda Dills all notched two hits in the contest.

Emily Marchbanks pitched a gem in the circle for the Wolves to earn her 12th win of the year. She tossed 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five.

Simonds put Newberry ahead of Queens (21-29) in the first 1-0 after an RBI-groundout. After a scoreless second and third innings, Simonds launched a leadoff home run in the fourth for her 12th bomb of the season.
