    •  The Development, Relief, and Education of Alien Minors (DREAM) Act proposed in 2001 is still pending. An alternative solution has been developed. Read more about the alternative solution.
    •  Effective July 1, 2013, the law limits the benefits of the Direct Loan subsidy to an aggregated period of no more than 150% of program length for new borrowers. Once that limit has been exceeded, a student may borrow only unsubsidized loans, and will begin to incur interest charges on outstanding subsidized loans. New borrower is defined as a student who has no outstanding principal balance on a Direct Loan or FFEL Loan on July 1, 2013, or on the date the borrower obtains a Direct Loan after July 1, 2013. The Department of Education will determine whether a student is a new borrower based on information it will already have. The three-year subsidized loan period is the same for part time and full time students (i.e. attending half-time will not extend your loan period).
    •  As of July 1, 2012, the Ability-to-Benefit is no longer applicable to financial aid. In order to receive financial aid, students must now have a High School Diploma, GED, or meet the requirement for the completion of home schooling (Note: Modified High School Diploma is not eligible for financial aid)
    • The Department of Education is recommending that students link to the IRS when completing their FAFSA online.
    • The federal government has a new Satisfactory Academic Policy. Not only do students have to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, students must now be at 67% pace towards completing their degree.
    • Life Time Eligibility of Pell is at 600%. This means if you are attending school full time, you are eligible up to 6 years of Pell. If you have been a Pell Grant recipient prior years, this change may affect you.
