Frequently Asked Questions
Registration Frequently Asked Questions
If you are on a waitlist for a class, check your CCC student email daily. If a spot opens up, you will get a notification to your @student.clackamas.edu email with the subject: "Waitlist Invitation." You will have 48 hours from the time the email was sent to register for the class.
Caution: If you do not register for the class within 48 hours, the next student on the list will be contacted.
The waitlist process stops the Friday before the term begins. After that, you will need to contact the instructor directly to see if there is space available in the class. If you are given permission to register, you can forward the instructor's email to registration@clackamas.edu to get registered.

It is possible for you to take a class for which you have not met the prerequisites, but it will require instructor consent (see the next question about instructor consent for more information). Note that some courses have required prerequisites, while other courses have recommended prerequisites. You may register for courses that have recommended prerequisites without instructor consent.
If you have met the prerequisites at another school and have not had your official transcripts evaluated by CCC, you can obtain a requisite waiver from Advising by filling out a Prerequisite Wavier Request form.
Instructor consent, also known as a student petition, is required for courses that have already started and/or that require instructor permission to register (for example, individual music lessons). You can obtain instructor consent in the following ways:
1. Self-Service
- Find the instructor’s name and contact info on the course listing in Self-Service Student Planning or on the CCC directory: www.clackamas.edu/directory. Request permission to add the class.
- The instructor can give consent online so that you can register yourself via Self-Service Student Planning. Note: This will only work for courses that have not started yet.
2. Email
- Find the instructor’s name and email on the course listing in Self-Service Student Planning or on the CCC directory: www.clackamas.edu/directory. Request permission to add the class.
- Forward their consent to: registration@clackamas.edu. You must use your CCC email account and include your full name, student ID, and specific course information.
3. Registration Request Form
- Submit the Registration Request form: www.clackamas.edu/forms.
- Be sure to include the instructor’s consent as an attachment to the form (e.g. an email from the instructor).
The deadline to drop a class for a refund depends on the length of the class.
- For classes meeting five weeks or longer: during the first two weeks of class
- For classes meeting three-to-four weeks: during the first week of class
- For classes meeting two weeks or less: before the class begins
If you miss the deadline to drop for a refund, you can still withdraw from the class for a Withdrawal grade (but no refund) within the first eight weeks of the term. After the deadline to drop for a refund has passed, you must submit a Refund Policy Petition to request a refund.
The deadline to withdraw from a class is by the end of the eighth week of the term. At this point, you will not receive a refund, and the course will appear with a Withdrawal (W) grade on your transcript. A "W" grade does not affect your GPA, but it may affect financial aid or other sources of funding. You cannot withdraw yourself from a class after the eighth week of the term. Your option at that point is to contact your instructor to request a "W" grade.
For information about grading options, changing a grade and drop deadlines, see the guide below.
