OREGON CITY - The demand for educated, technically skilled workers is higher than ever thanks to advancing technology and an aging workforce. The field of electronics engineering technology is requiring an ever increasing level of technical talents.

To address this growing need, Clackamas Community College (CCC) offers an electronics engineering technology program. For those looking to enter the industrial technology field, electronics engineering technology trains students for the careers of engineering technician, manufacturing equipment technician, field services technician, operator, and processor with large and small employers in high-tech industries.

According to the United States Department of Labor, the median annual salary for electrical and electronics engineering technicians is $63,660.

"If you like taking electronics equipment apart and putting it back together, working with your hands and problem solving, the electronics engineering technology is for you" CCC instructor Mike Farrell said. "The demand for those who can create, understand and alter electrical control systems puts electronic engineers at the cutting-edge of the technology sector."

CCC's hands-on learning environment gives electronics engineering technology students the fundamentals in electronics, digital logic, troubleshooting and schematics. Students learn to:

  • Assemble, disassemble, adjust and verify electronic equipment performance
  • Read specifications, symbols, schematics, ladder diagrams and assembly drawings
  • Build prototypes and make parts using bench lathes, drills and other machine tools
  • Use test procedures and diagnostics to service and maintain equipment

The college also offers a number of transferable classes into Oregon Tech's Electronics Engineering Technology degree program.
