CCC Offers Fall Gardening Workshops
OREGON CITY - Start the fall gardening season off with a workshop from the Clackamas Community College Horticulture Department.
Pesticide laws and safety
Mondays, Oct. 28-Dec. 2, 1-4:50 p.m.
Learn about the laws and regulations related to safety, handling, recordkeeping and storage of pesticides. Techniques for product selection, including chemical and non-chemical options, applicator safety and environmental protection will be included. Prepare and test for the Oregon Pesticide Laws and Safety exam. Cost: $181.
Foundations of irrigation design
Nov. 1 and 2, 8 a.m.-4:50 p.m.
Developed by Irrigation Association instructors with years of teaching experience, this beginner irrigation design focuses on designing a simple residential or small commercial system. Organized to follow the typical design process, topics include gathering site information, calculating system capacity, soil-water-plant relationships, pipe sizing, hydraulics, layout, uniformity, zoning and plan presentation. Cost: $160.
Japanese style pruning
Nov. 2, 8-11:50 a.m.
Learn the art of Japanese pruning with Masa Mizuno, a highly respected master of Japanese garden cultivation. He has worked for decades with established Japanese gardens throughout the Pacific Northwest and has led his own landscape design/install firm for more than 30 years. This is a hands-on class. Bring gloves, pruners and/or pruning saw. Pruning will be done off site at an area nursery. This class fills quickly. Cost: $40.
Nov. 23, 10-11:50 a.m.
Hypertufa containers - or troughs - make natural additions to the garden as well as handsome homes for alpine plants on a patio, deck or balcony. These containers can be made in nearly any shape or size. Learn how to make one and about the appropriate plants and soils to use. Cost: $35.
Pesticide core training
Dec. 6, 1-4:40 p.m.
This training qualifies for four CORE recertification credits as required by Oregon Department of Agriculture. Cost. $40.
