OREGON CITY - The Clackamas Community College Board of Education passed a declaration of board vacancy during its Dec. 20 regular meeting. The vacancy is in Zone 4, which covers Oregon City and was previously filled by Chris Groener, who resigned from the position.

CCC Board of Education members are elected to four-year terms and represent each of the seven zones in the college's service district. The board oversees the development of programs and services, and the adoption of policies and budget, to meet the needs of the college district.

Groener served on the CCC Board of Education for 11 years. He was a CCC alum, and his father, Ralph Groener, served on the board in the 1970s. The board acknowledged Groener's years of service and thanked him for his dedication to the college.

Applications for the vacant position are being accepted until 5 p.m., Jan. 31. The new board member will take office upon appointment by the board and serve until June 30, 2025. The appointed board member may run to fill the remaining two years of the term in the May 2025 election.

Applicants must be registered voters residing within Clackamas Community College Zone 4 boundaries and not an officer or employee of the college. Visit the CCC Board of Education webpage for more information about the board, a map of the college district and the application.
