Grant-funded courses - Spring term
ED-216 Foundations of Teaching/Education (4 credits, online and in person)
Provides an overview of the educational system in the U.S. including historical, legal, and philosophical foundations of education. Explores the financing, governance and organization of education as well as current issues impacting our educational system. Provides an overview of diversity in educational settings and the characteristics and ethical obligations of effective schools and professional educators. Examines career options and pathways in the field of education.
For all education seeking students: Early Childhood Education, K-12.
ED-101 Intro Ed Practicum & Seminar (3 credits)
This course introduces students to critical topics associated with the education profession. Each topic will be considered on an introductory level with an understanding that future classes will expand student comprehension and knowledge to a mastery level. Students are also required to participate in a 6-hour-per-week practicum to provide the opportunity to experience directly the various educational issues discussed in class. Required: Student Petition.
For K-12 students only.
ECE-280 Early Childhood Education Cooperative Work Experience (2-6 credits)
Cooperative work experience. Provides students with on-the-job experience in the field of early childhood education. Students will work nine hours a week in pre-approved educational settings that serve children from six weeks old through age eight. Required: Student petition.
Prerequisites
- ECE-121, ECE-150, and ECE-154 - Must be completed prior to taking this course.
- CWE-281 - Must be taken at the same time as this course.

Certificate Programs - One Year to Complete
Transfer to a four-year university
Our Early Childhood Education degree program has articulation agreements with Portland State University, Oregon State University and Southern Oregon University. The Oregon Transfer degree (AAOT) is accepted at all public and private universities in Oregon.

Early Childhood Education and Family Studies programs
The Early Childhood Education and Family Studies certificate and degree are now fully available. Get more information in Spanish.
Licensing information
Students wishing to become licensed teachers should pursue the AAOT in either Elementary Education or in the subject they plan to teach in the future (English or math, for example). The AAOT is accepted at all public and private universities in Oregon.
